Excerpt

Holy shit. Jamie was kissing him. Brett’s head told him to back off and walk away, but his body remembered those lips and how much he’d once enjoyed having them pressed against his own. His body wanted to lean into the kiss and respond with four years’ worth of regret. For a few precious moments, he let himself give in to desire. His heart hammered against his ribs, desperate to escape his body and reclaim what it had lost. His fingers tingled as he wrapped an arm around Jamie’s shoulders and held him tightly, his thumb making small circles on Jamie’s shirt. Then his brain kicked into gear again. What the fuck was he doing? This was the guy who had ripped his heart out in the worst possible way. Besides, Jamie was clearly at least half-gone. What they were doing was a mistake at best. He pulled away, breathing heavily as he stared at Jamie, whose pupils were blown wide. “You’re drunk,” Brett said in the most matter-of-fact tone he could manage. Jamie curled his upper lip and turned away, shaking his head. It was dumb for Brett to follow him, but he did it anyway. They’d been best friends long before they’d realised they were attracted to each other. Brett had always looked out for Jamie, back when they’d lived next door to each other. Those instincts kicked in. “Let me walk you home.” Jamie stopped and rounded on him, fists clenched, teeth gritted. “Don’t pretend you give a shit.”

Review

*****

Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster.  The author has done a fantastic job of building real characters that are broken, and yet strong enough to go through the daily grind.  This book will make you smile, frown, laugh and cry.  The balance of emotions is perfect.  And even through the dark moments, I found the author managed not to take us too dark.

We meet Brett four years after he and Jamie his high school sweetheart made love for the first time.  That night that changed both their lives forever and not in a good way. Brett has not let anyone into his heart since that fateful day.  Satisfying his needs with one-night stands, that left him cold.

Then Brett comes face to face with Jamie and his whole world is turned upside down.

Jamie tried to kill himself four years ago and is struggling to keep his head above water.  He suffers deep depression which threatens to go out of control once more when he comes face to face with Brett.

Both initially resent each other, and we watch as they try to deal with their unravelling emotions, as well as the strong attraction they still have for one another.  Brett is frightened to ask Jamie about that night four years ago, he does not want to spoil their budding relationship.   And Jamie can not bring himself to talk about it and goes within himself.

They must learn to trust themselves and trust their new bond if things can continue between them.

I Really liked the Authors description of the characters Emotions, I felt the hurt, pain, hope and love oozing off the page.  The story is nicely paced, and you are that invested in the characters futures that you do not want to put the book down.

Chase Hamilton, the owner of the private BDSM club Darkfall, is known for being cool and reserved. For years he’s run from his past, from the deep emotions that can destroy his hold on that self-contained persona. His last relationship ends badly, and he’s in a downward spiral, nothing like the natural Dom he used to be. His friends are worried, and unhappy with the way he’s behaving and Chase knows he can no longer ignore his pain. Walking the floor of his club one night, he sees something that turns his stomach. He won’t stand for it, and his actions that night change his life.

After months in captivity, being raped and tortured by the Osiris Circle, one night will change his life forever. Mason Brooks is a wraith, a broken shell of the man and the sub he once was. When Chase rescues him neither of them knows the key role the other will play in their recoveries. Months later, Mason’s body is healing, but his mind still struggles with opening up about all that’s happened to him. Can he ever handle a “normal” relationship, much less the submissive one? Chase is everything Mason dreamed of, everything he craves in a man and a Dom, but how can a man as perfect as Chase ever want him, especially after…

Unknowingly, they both have the same thought.

“I don’t want to disappoint him. What if I am too broken ever to have

a relationship again?”

The Promise Of Silance

By Marshall

"The Promise Of Silence" is the historical truth about the struggle of homosexual life in catholic Ireland. It is a voyage into the horizons of intolerance that was practiced by the catholic religion. It is enriched with the impression of tangibility to entangle the reader with the taste of emotions, the touch of sufferance and the sound of brutality. It incorporates the religious, social and political battle of a homosexual to survive in a hetero-normative culture.

Born in Catholic Ireland in 1976, the protagonist resurrects his emotional journey. The catholic god that governed Irish politics silenced queers, the pulpit sermons liberated the wrath of god and as my holy mother turned the discoloured gilded pages of her aged bible in prayer she crucified me in punishment for my immorality.

Those that threw stones should have been more clement in their judgement. The almighty catholic god of Ireland preached compassion, but it certainly wasn’t practiced by the righteous Ireland that I belonged to. I wanted to be seduced by death, but I somehow survived the sufferance that no human should ever taste.

“The Promise of Silence” is not my revenge or my coming out and I am certainly not a gay militant. The virile heterosexual type may not be enticed as much as their homosexual counterpart to brave reading a “queer related book”, but for tolerance to flourish heterosexuals need to voyage into the tragedy of homosexual sufferance.

“The Promise Of Silence” sparks great reflection and brings forth facts about the heterosexual revolution for liberty too. The Catholic God governed fertility; Irish brides became machines to manufacture catholic babies and women certainly needed political freedom from the sufferance and brutality that enchained them in silence too.

I invite you to journey into “The Promise Of Silence”, taste my sufferance, hear my immortalised tears, judge me if you want to, but tread softly on my dream of freedom. Perhaps you can make my dream of tolerance become tangible?

It wasn't meant to be like this. Dylan's life in the spellster tower has everything he should want: magical knowledge, safety from the King's Hounds and frequent clandestine affairs with women. All at the cost of his freedom. So when the chance to leave the tower—even as a leashed weapon for the King's Army—arises, he seizes it. When his first scouting mission goes awry, Dylan is left alone in a hostile world with the tower a distant beacon of safety. Only the flirtatious Tracker, an elven man whose very presence awakens Dylan's long-repressed desire, can help him return to his old life before the crown discovers his unleashed status. But the risk of being branded a deserter may be the least of his concerns as whispers of an armed presence in the North threatens his home. Dylan must rely on Tracker to protect him even as everything he thought he knew begins to unravel around them.

Excerpt The dagger was the first thing he saw. Curved and sharp. In the lantern-light peeking out from the street, the blade bore an insidious purple sheen. Barely daring to breathe, he followed the blade down to the bronze hand and onwards to the elven man glaring up at him. "If you're after money. I have none." The elf's sharp eyes, in a shade that reminded Dylan of rich honey, narrowed. "Money?" The man sneered. "My dear spellster, do I look like I need your paltry coin?" He spoke with the vaguely similar smooth accent of his old roommate, Sulin. The words tumbled off his tongue much like rock down a hill, catching occasionally on a soft trill or hiss. Only those from Wintervale spoke in such a way. "I don't—" The man knew he was a spellster? That could become problematic if he also knew of a hound in the area. Dylan lifted his hands, careful to ensure his palms remained facing away from the elf. As well as sharing a similarity in accents as his old roommate, the man was quite tall for an elf. Not quite as much as Sulin, but the top of the man's head easily reached the base of Dylan's neck. "Look, I really don't want to hurt you." The dagger flashed up with barely a twitch from the elf, the flat of the blade tapping Dylan on the lips. "No more talking. I have been looking all over this village for the spellster everyone says is here and now I have you." The point returned to his throat. "Now lower your hands. I am sure it has occurred to you that attacking me will do you no good. You would be dead well before I." His gaze dropped to take in the man's armour. Hard to tell in the watery light, but it looked well-made and leather. Not a common thief, then. A mercenary, perhaps? Something about the style nagged at him. He'd seen it before, as far back as the tower. Not on the guardians, but— The hound. Fetcher might have been human and a woman, but she'd worn the exact same armour. "You're a hound," he breathed, amazed he could say a word when it felt like his heart had relocated to his throat. The man's full lips twisted into a humourless smile. "How very astute of you. At least you are not entirely without your wits." "You have to help me." Was it not a hound's job to bring spellsters to the tower? Just like they'd done with Sulin and Launtil and countless others who'd been born outside the walls. And this elf would know the quickest route. "I need to get back to the tower." "So you admit you left." "Well, yes, but I was—" The minute change in the blade's pressure against his throat stilled his tongue. The hounds will hunt you. His guardian's words echoed in his ears. Safe in the tower, safe with a neck banded in metal, but venture outside without being leashed? Practically a death sentence. Any spellster rumoured to have fled the tower weren't heard from again. "The crown does not exactly take kindly to runaways."

Author Interview

With

 Aldrea Alien

Hello Aldrea, please tell us a little about yourself?

Hi there! About myself? Righty-o. I’m a short, pasty New Zealander with teeth sharp enough for kids to ask if I’m a vampire (and I will tell them yes). On another level, I’m a mother with one sneaky-ass eleven-year-old daughter and a partner who’s my own personal Gimli in the beard department. We’re all a bunch of geeks, and that goes back to my father, who introduced me to Star Wars at a very early age. I’m also bisexual and genderfluid.

What other careers do/did you have apart from writing?

Is Mother considered a career? I feel that it should be. I’ve been a stay-at-home mum for over eleven years now. Before then, I worked in a printing press, manually inserting those little glossy ads into newspapers, sprained both my wrists at that job. In between that job, I also briefly worked in a factory that made the paper bags you’d put chips or pies in... Didn’t eat out of one for months afterwards after seeing one woman wipe her nose on the back of her hand then handle the bags. Blergh.

Apart from writing, what else do you like to do?

I love my video games. Especially fantasy RPGs, although I’m quite fond of the Lego games I play with my daughter.

Do you like to read books that are like the ones you write?

Of course. I adore fantasy, the longer the better, really. My favourite series are typically longer ones (Wheel of Time, Witch World, Discworld, etc.). And, if there’s not a romance in a book I’m reading, I’ll find something cute to cling to or add it myself.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to write an epic fantasy novel?

Outline, but don’t be afraid to scrap that outline and move on if you find yourself stifled. Write down details as they come. Have references for your references, especially for journeys and towns. Research everything you don’t have firsthand knowledge of, but don’t put it all in. Study old cities in the civilisation you’re basing your world on to get an idea of how they’re laid out.

And back up your stuff that day! Multiple places if you can. I lost two complete chapters of In Pain and Blood and a bunch of other bits because of a corrupted file. Only the first chapter was saved because I’d made it separate. Because of this, I like to have each chapter in its own file. It also made it easier to find the spot when I needed to tweak.

Christmas is just a few days away, what is your favourite memory of Christmas as a child?

Er... I can’t rightfully say. Christmas sort of lost its magic for me at the age of seven. I can give you a ton of bad Christmas memories, but if there were ever some good ones in my childhood, they’ve long since gone. We stopped celebrating at all after my grandmother passed on, starting again when my daughter was two, so yeah...

How do you usually celebrate Christmas?

There’s not a great deal of “usually” as things change every year (with us visiting my partner’s parents or them visiting us and whether or not we actually have a Christmas dinner/lunch anywhere). About the only thing that’s stable is the opening of presents in the morning.

And what is your favourite part of Christmas day?

Got to say, it’s the end. That probably sounds like I’m a jaded little me, but I find it all exhausting.

Is in Pain and Blood your first Fantasy novel?

No. That’d be, technically, The Rogue King, even if it’s in the Science Fantasy realm. For High Fantasy, there are a bunch of others I never finished or officially published. Then there’s Dark One’s Mistress, which has a gothic flare, but still within a Fantasy setting. In Pain and Blood is merely my longest standalone.

Why did you choose to write this novel as a MM Genre?

Largely because it felt right for the characters and the story. And a little bit because the characters took up the story and ran with it.

The book sounds exciting and with a whopping 700+ pages it is going to be an epic fantasy. Can you tell us a little more about the characters?

I suppose I should start with Dylan seeing he’s the main character. He’s naive of the world outside the tower and enamoured with this romanticised idea of wandering the land, fighting off the bad guys and helping spellsters like him be free without the populous being afraid of them. He has a fondness for lavender, singing, history and flat cakes.

Tracker... he’s been through a lot. Being of the King’s Hounds means they train them as soon as they’re able and anything goes. People have been known to die. Whilst he and Dylan have both learnt that loving someone just invites pain, Tracker learnt it in a far harsher lesson. Because of that, he tends to present himself as a man who’ll sleep with any number of people (he will, but that’s just a facet).

Authril’s a mercenary who lost her company in a fight against the encroaching imperial forces. She’s overall weary of magic after seeing its violent side, but grows to trust Dylan enough to accept his aid. Her main goal is in getting Dylan back to the army and then returning to the border to kick Udynean butt.

Marin is a person that vastly prefers being away from cities. She can’t stand people who think they’re better than others and is explosively violent to those who insult those she’s grown attached to. She sort of sees Dylan as a dorky big brother and does sort of nudge him in a few places whilst also teasing him.

Katarina is far more aware of things than she likes to display. As a dwarven archaeologist, she’s not fully up to speed with the cultural differences between human kingdoms, but she’s travelled to places Dylan could only dream of and has survived a few hair-raising journeys to get where she is now. Over all of them, I think she’s likely the most forgiving.

How did the idea for the story come about?

It was all likely inspired by a mess of songs, games and movies. There’s the odd trope that I played with, too. After I commissioned a portrait piece of my dear RPG character, Dylan sort of pop up fully-fledged and ran with things until Tracker took the reins.

How difficult is it to write fantasy / magic stories?

Not very. I’ve been doing it for so long that it’s more of a go-to place for my brain. Having stuff set in the real world is far harder.

It must take a lot of research to get things believable?

The magic part, not so much. I tend to stick to it needing to be an innate ability that must be trained and honed rather than one that can be taught by anyone. So the rules are fairly simple: do something and it’s going to drain your energy. Too much and there’s not enough in a person to do the basic things, like breathe.

Of other details, yeah. It took a little research. I’ve been writing and researching for some time now, so a lot of it being be reaffirming what I remembered was correct. I think the most I did was checking up on plants and when they flowered for certain scenes. Travelling was another big one. It altered a few details and led to some additional scenes.

Will the other books in the series be MM or MF?

Some will. Some won’t. There are five definite other books, with two more maybes that I’m currently mulling over. Two of those five are MF with rest being MM, FF and M/Intersex.

Some will focus not only on other characters, but other places in their world. Most of them remain in one country with the exception of To Target the Heart, which is set in two kingdoms and is about two princes falling in love and one secretly competing when the other’s mother holds a contest of arms with him as the prize. I’m sort of torn between writing that and Spectre of the Golden Voice, which is the M/Intersex couple and is heavily influenced by Phantom of the Opera and far tamer.

What is your favourite take out / eat out food?

KFC. Although, I’ll go for most non-spicy fried chicken, if I’m honest.

If you won, the lottery what would be the first thing you would buy?

Most likely a bigger house, something large enough that I could have my own writing space without having to either hog the bedroom and relegating my partner to the lounge or stay up until late for some peace and quiet.

If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?  (family and friends not included)

That is a very good question as most of the big names I would’ve liked to meet are dead, even though I’d likely have been too tongue-tied to say anything. So… David Tennant.

Favourite Book and why?

Year of the Unicorn by Andre Norton. The focus is fully on this young girl, Gillan, as she struggles with her magical abilities and trying to decipher the intrigue within the were-riders, especially since they target the man she has chosen to be her husband. That inner conflict is a good foil for the outer which happens in the second half of the story, where they become almost a battle couple in a fight of both will and physical endurance.

Favourite Song and why?

There Must Be An Angel by Eurythmics. I can’t remember the original reason why it’s my favourite, only that it’ll get me singing every time.

Favourite movie and why? Probably the animated version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. I haven’t watched it in years, but I can still quote large chunks of it.

About the Author

Mother. Animal Lover. Vampire. Fangirl. Aldrea Alien is a New Zealand author of romantic speculative fiction of varying heat levels. She grew up on a small farm out the back blocks of a place known as Wainuiomata alongside a menagerie of animals, who are all convinced they're just as human as the next person (especially the cats). She spent a great deal of her childhood riding horses, whilst the rest of her time was consumed with reading every fantasy book she could get her hands on and concocting ideas about a little planet known as Thardrandia. This would prove to be the start of The Rogue King Saga as, come her twelfth year, she discovered there was a book inside her. Aldrea now lives in Upper Hutt, on yet another small farm with a less hectic, but still egotistical, group of animals (cats will be cats). She self-published the first of The Rogue King Saga in 2014. One thing she hasn't yet found is an off switch to give her an ounce of peace from the characters plaguing her mind, a list that grows bigger every year with all of them clamouring for her to tell their story first. It's a lot of people for one head.

Stephan’s Monster

Vampires of Vadin book 2

By Shelby Rhodes

Blurb

Jayden knows he’s a monster. The people he killed were horrible, but it didn’t change what he was. And being taken in by Stephan Everwood at fifteen hadn’t changed his homicidal tendencies. Yet ten years later he finds himself struggling to be someone he's not. Then, despite thinking he lost most of his emotions years ago, Jayden discovers that not only is he not as empty inside as he thought, but that his monster is more present than ever before.

Stephan freely admits he has some issues. His self-doubts could be unrelenting and Stephan’s need to fix things tended to go too far. It blinded him to Jayden’s struggles. In the end his refusal to listen to what Jayden was trying to tell him has unfortunate results. When Stephan finally accepts who Jayden is, he must also face all that he had locked away inside.

Their difficulties brought them together. Their love healed them. And when the past tries to tear them apart, their darkness saved them.

Excerpt:

Clutching tightly, the man pulled him back around. “Let me help!” His voice was rushed, higher than before, and slightly panicked. “We can turn him over to the authorities, the Zaytari. Evidence! We can find evidence and turn it in. You’ve been in his head, haven’t you?”

Jayden scowled at the hand on his arm—he wasn’t a fan of being grabbed, and Stephan seemed to be doing it a lot. “I have.”

“Then we’ll know where to find proof,” he insisted, completely ignoring Jayden’s irritation.

“Stephan, if you haven’t noticed, poor Richard here is a little banged up. A bit hard to play it off as nothing, don’t you think?” Jayden nodded toward the bloody man.

Nose wrinkling, Stephan hesitantly said, “I can fix that…the only issue would be his memories. We would need someone to get rid of them.” He nibbled on his bottom lip. “I may be able to hire someone. I just need time.”

“I can do it.”

“You can?” Stephan sounded surprised.

Running his fingers through his hair, Jayden grimaced. Apparently, he couldn’t keep his mouth shut tonight.

What was wrong with him? Jayden had no intention of letting Richard leave here alive. Ugh, his whole night of murderous fun had been shot to hell.

Who was Stephan anyway? Not to mention, why the hell was he believing everything Jayden said? Was the man really that naïve? It didn’t make sense. He shouldn’t be, not with what he had experienced. Was this a trap?

It would have been nice if Jayden had a way to find out. Unfortunately, the man’s mental walls were solidly back in place.

Eyeing him suspiciously, he asked, “Who are you?”

“What?”

Jayden stalked closer and invaded the man’s personal space, brushing up against him. “Who are you, Stephan? What are you doing here?”

Stephan released his arm and staggered a few steps back. “I own this building. A construction crew is coming to tear it down in a few days. I wanted to make sure no one was living here. As for who I am? I’m not sure how to answer that.”

Stephan’s words were a mixture of truths and deceptions. “I don’t like being lied to, Stephan. I would suggest…” Jayden trailed off when something clicked into place.

He hissed, jerking as the walls and floors of the warehouse were suddenly drenched in blood with bodies scattered on the floor all around him.

It wasn’t real, just a phantom hiding what was actually there. A vision brought on by a memory—one that faded away moments later.

Jayden hated having these visions. They left him defenseless and unaware of his surroundings. While this one had been short, others had lasted hours. When he was locked into a memory, someone could stab him, and he wouldn’t even notice—until he pulled free, that is. And he knew that for a fact, as it had happened.

God, why couldn’t Jayden have been born just a little bit more normal? He was almost positive that the average vampire didn’t have to deal with shit like that. At least he didn’t think they did—Jayden didn’t really have any friends.

“This is where it happened, where they hurt you, where you killed them…”

“Yes…”

“How could you afford to buy it?”

The man laughed bitterly. “My parents were rich.”

“I see.” He struggled to find something else to say.

Stephan’s shoulders slumped and his bottom lip began to tremble. The man seemed so sad, and for some reason that angered him.

Jayden glared down at the ground. Why was he angry? He shouldn’t be feeling anything. Was it the man’s past? Jayden rubbed his chest at the uncomfortable feelings running through him. He had the strongest urge to run away.

Maybe if he humored the man, he would leave—no harm in that, right?

Jayden gave Stephan a tight smile. “Let’s try it your way…however, if it doesn’t work, I will kill him. Though with how much blood Richard has lost, it’s probably too late anyway.”

“I can do it.”

Jayden stepped back and gave a mocking bow. “If you say so.”

Arms hanging loose, Stephan closed his eyes. He tilted his head back and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, his pupils had been replaced by solid pools of lilac.

Jayden gasped, a cold shiver running through him as power swirled around the room. There was so much of it, and all of it was coming from Stephan. The very air was shifting—he had never felt anything like it. Hair standing on end, Jayden felt he should run away—to not trust the force around him.

Suddenly the air settled. The power hadn’t vanished, though. It was still thickening the air. His lungs stuttered as he struggled to draw in a full breath under its weight. Whoever Stephan was, he was dangerous.

Adult Excerpt:

Jayden was just going to go for it. He wanted Stephan to feel pleasure, and he wanted the little man to feel comfortable with his needs—to not fear them.

At a small nod, Jayden wasted no time. He picked Stephan up and set him on the edge of the tub. Squawking, Stephan tried to cover his erection.

“You’re beautiful. Please don’t hide from me.”

Trembling hands slowly slid away. He licked his lips. The view in front of him had his dick throbbing. Jayden found his gaze following water droplets and bubble suds as they traveled down the man’s smooth skin. Stephan’s legs were slim, his waist trim, and his stomach perfectly flat.

Besides what was on his head, the only hair on the man’s body was a neatly trimmed patch of curls at the base of his five-inch cock. Stephan’s prick twitched ever so slightly as pre-cum dripped from its tip. The view was mouthwatering.

He grabbed a bathing poof and lathered it up with a bodywash that smelled of lilies. Running the sponge up and down Stephan’s neck, Jayden used swirling motions to spread the sweet-scented foam over the man’s collarbone. Lower down, he gently brushed against Stephan’s erect pink buds.

The little man’s eyes dilated and his lips parted as the textured poof rasped against his nipples—small tremors ran through him. Stephan’s breathing grew heavy, and the scent of his lust thickened.

The man looked so beautiful in his arousal, but Jayden would have to watch him closely. He didn’t want to draw out Stephan’s fear again.

As Jayden washed Stephan, he soon found out how very sensitive the man’s body was. Stephan shifted and whimpered, his breath hitching each time Jayden found a spot.

Not wishing to scare him, Jayden was quick as he slid between the man’s rounded cheeks. Continuing on, he covered every delectable inch of him with suds until all that was left was Stephan’s swollen prick and tight sack.

Sweat dripped down Jayden’s face as he looked at the last bit left untouched—he felt almost light-headed. The heat from the water and that his arousal left him dizzy. The only clear thought in his mind was that he wished to possess the man in front of him—Jayden wanted to make Stephan his.

After dropping the poof, hand completely soaped up, Jayden wrapped it around Stephan’s cock. The man jerked in shock at his touch.

Instead of rubbing the twitching flesh in his grasp, Jayden remained still, waiting to see how Stephan would react.

Swaying, the little man grabbed his shoulder to stabilize himself. “J-Jade,” Stephan whined.

When the stench of fear never came, Jayden ran his hand up and down Stephan’s shaft. Pre-cum and suds mixed together as he pumped the man’s throbbing prick.

The soft moans that drifted past Stephan’s lips strengthened Jayden’s excitement. Each drop of pre-cum he drew from the man had his own leaking out.

Jayden’s gaze kept flitting between what his hand was doing and his lover’s face. Either view was worth dying for. He cupped the man’s balls with his other hand, then gently squeezed and massaged the tight sack.

“Oh God, Jayden…” Stephan cried.

Jayden focused on the look of pleasure on the man’s face. Stephan’s eyes were hazy, his lips slightly parted. He had his head tilted back, seeing nothing—just feeling and taking in every touch.

But Jayden had no intention of letting the man come this way. He wanted to bring him with his mouth, to have his sweet release on his tongue. To savor Stephan’s first taste of pleasure in years.

Releasing him, Jayden pulled away.

“What…” Stephan muttered in a daze.

“I want to taste you, sweetheart. Will you let me?”

Stephan’s brow furrowed, looking so adorably confused. Chuckling, Jayden slowly ran a finger up the underside of the man’s cock. “I want to suck this.”

The pleasure clouding Stephan’s face faded a bit. “S-suck?” the man sputtered.

Jayden wiggled his eyebrows. “Suck,” he purred.

Stephan nodded stiffly. Permission given, Jayden grabbed the showerhead and sprayed Stephan’s crotch. The man squealed in indignation at the sudden assault of water, shying away.

Hands gripping Stephan’s thighs, Jayden grinned. He slid down into the water until he was eye level with the man’s hard length. “Sorry, I’ve never liked the taste of soap.”

Stephan started to say something, but it ended in a choked gasp as Jayden took his cock fully down his throat. Nuzzling into his trimmed curls, he breathed in the man’s musky, sweet scent—caramel with a hint of pistachio.

Jayden ran his hands up and down Stephan’s trembling thighs. And for just a few moments, he stared into the man’s glazed eyes, savoring the taste of him—then he swallowed.

“Jayden!” Stephan cried out, his hands threaded through Jayden’s hair, gripping the strands tightly. He writhed as Jayden massaged his cock with his throat.

When he pulled off, Stephan let out a whine of protest. But Jayden ignored his pleas and blew a few puffs of cool air on the spit-covered tip before flicking his tongue against Stephan’s slit. The man moaned and arched toward him as he licked the mushroom head and captured every dollop of pre-cum with his tongue.

Only when Stephan’s whimpers and moans echo through the room did Jayden finally take him back into his mouth. Then, hollowing his cheeks, he began to suck, bobbing up and down on Stephan’s cock.

Blurb When recent horticulture graduate Dr. Fenton Miller arrives in Stone Acres, California, he thinks his only concern is which job offer to accept after spending the holidays working at his cousin’s plant nursery. But after he rents a room from another shorter-than-average man, sous-chef John Barton, Fen falls in lust. While he’s attracted to Fen, John’s got bigger concerns when two men from his past arrive in town and pressure him to return to San Francisco. Although John tries to stop Fen from getting involved, Fen realizes his lover is in trouble and is determined to protect him. As the holidays get closer and Fen makes his own enemy, the joy of the season gets lost in the ill will around them. To ensure love triumphs, Fen and John must stand tall to show that short, dark, and handsome is a recipe for love.

Excerpt That night I stood freezing at Barton’s door, admiring Blue Cottage. The snow drifts piled on the lawn made the house look greeting-card perfect. I searched for a doorbell. Instead, a lion-headed knocker snarled at me. I grinned. Every house needed an intimidating guardian, right? A man who looked about my age and height opened the door and slipped out, shutting it behind him. I was curious to see inside, but I got that the guy wanted his privacy. No problem. “Hi. I’m Fen.” He looked me over, then turned to the left along the shoveled porch. As he walked, he played with the keyring, bouncing a key in his hand. Did I make him nervous? If so, was that a good thing? “This way.” Okay. I took a breath and followed his pert ass and brisk steps as we rounded the porch to a steep staircase. From my brief glance at his face, he seemed okay. I was still slightly put off by his brusque manner. But hey, I reminded myself, I was renting from him, not fucking him. In silence I followed him up to a small porch and a solid-looking back door, which he opened after only a little fumbling. I was greeted by the stuffy, closed-up odor of a place long left undisturbed. “You’d be my first renter. It’s furnished, but I can store anything you don’t want.” He made quick eye contact with me. The words erupted from him like I made him uncomfortable or something. Maybe it was my piercing and the tattoo, or maybe the hair color. I tried a smile, but he blushed and turned away, gesturing to the rooms. Even though the air inside was chilly, I looked around and fell even more in love than I had when I’d first seen the house. The 1940s era furniture and knickknacks turned what could have been sterile rooms into my kind of home. I exhaled, letting the ambience settle in my soul as I wandered through a country kitchen, tiny dining room, sitting room, two bedrooms, and a classic bathroom, ending eventually at a circular tower room. I fell even deeper in love along the way as I touched the scratched kitchen table, a velveteen-covered parlor settee, a solid-looking four-poster bed, and the needlepoint-cushioned window seat in the tower. If I were Barton, I’d charge thousands a month for this place. I prayed he wasn’t me and was relieved when my prayers were answered. “You want to keep the furniture?” He still didn’t look at me as he bent over the kitchen table to fill out the rental agreement. Who needed him staring? I could live with letting his voice pour over me and seeing his kissable lips. “I can’t imagine living here without all of it.” Or maybe even you, I thought, eyeing his pert butt wiggling at me as he wrote. He stopped, stood, and eyed me for a few seconds before bending and going back to writing. I hadn’t said that about his butt out loud, had I? As I was daydreaming about his ass and the scarred table, he stopped writing, looked over the form, and finally twisted it toward me. “Sign here, initial here, and date it. Then I need your rent for the month.” I was signing before he changed his mind. The rent was ridiculously cheap. “No deposit?” There had to be a catch, right? “No.” I glanced up. He was gazing down at the table, or maybe at my hands. Or my groin? I signed as fast as I could and wrote a check to John Barton, the name on the rental agreement. So he had a first name, and we had a deal.   I drove back to my cousin’s house whistling. Within an hour, and with Beth and Kate’s help, I was moved in. Having only clothes and electronics made the move a one-trip job. Then I went food shopping for breakfast stuff and frozen dinners. We all celebrated by eating a late dinner outside town at a diner called the Rock Bottom Cafe. Renting a place with a wonderful kitchen hadn’t automatically taught me to cook. Even with an enigma for a landlord, my life was perfect.

Review

*****

I loved the Collars and Cuffs series and was so sad to see it end.  KC and Parker are amazing writing duo and they just get stronger and stronger.  This book must be my favourite of all the Collars and Cuffs / Secrets series so far.

They have a natural talent of building very deep and realistic characters, that grow through out the book.  The characters descriptions are so well described you feel like one of their friends watching them evolve.  We especially get to experience their feelings both happy and devastating sad moments.

Rob in the first Collars and Cuffs book was a mean and selfish guy who thought the world owed him something.   We really did not like the character back then.  But the authors have done a superb job of changing our feelings toward this lonely damaged guy that needs someone to be his rock.

Their world building of the BDSM club and lifestyle has an authentic feel, the details to the clubs description and to the lifestyle is vivid and you feel like your at the club yourself.

When I saw the title of the book I wondered if there was any connection to the first Collars and Cuffs book An Unlocked Heart.  And was happy to see there is a connection.   As this book is based around Alex’s brother, who caused all sorts of trouble for Alex.  Trouble that Rob has been regretting ever since.  Having dug himself into a deep hole that he can not climb out off Rob is at a loss with himself.

He still does not understand how Alex found love in a BDSM club.  And when he receives a invitation to attend the opening of Secrets A BDSM club in London.  He needs to escape his dreary life and uses some of his savings to attend the club, in the hope of proving to himself he was right.

But unbeknown to Rob until he enters the club and sees Alex and Leo on stage doing a presentation, he hides in the shadows not wanting Alex to see him.   What he sees, is love care and devotion between the Dom and Sub.  Some thing he craves even though he may not be aware of it.

Vic has been working away from home and gets talked into going to Secrets upon his return home.  He bumps into Rob who has returned to secrets after promising himself not to go ever again.  Rob is very rude to Vic and storms off.

Whilst driving home Vic passes Rob walking in the pouring rain and strong wind, He is unable to ignore seeing Rob and turns around and goes back to where Rob is.   He offers Rob his spare room for the night and a promise of a lift to the train station the next morning.

What follows is a heart warming and sometimes heart wrenching story of Rob finding himself, learning to trust, to be and to love.  Vic promises Rob he will be his rock with no strings attached.

Vic is a gentle giant, and sees beyond Robs hard image.  He sees loneliness and hurt and yes guilt too.  For some reason he can not leave Rob to suffer alone any longer.

Vic helps Rob face his past, to have the courage to try and build bridges and to let his past go and move forward.

Their mutual attraction grows slowly, and Vic insists he won’t push Rob, he must come and ask for what he wants.   Eventually they do get together and Rob even attends the club as Vic’s sub.

It is not all plain sailing though and Vic is unable to totally change Robs bratty attitude, but that is one of the things Vic secretly does not want to change, even if it goes against the protocol of the lifestyle.

I can not put into words how much I love this book and the New cheeky but mature Bratty Rob lol.  If you have read any of the authors previous BDSM books, this one is a must read.   And even if you are new to the series you will still be able to enjoy and follow the story as the authors have cleverly written the book so everyone can enjoy the story and characters.

The Midnight Cafe Author's Hot Seat Interview

What other careers do / did you have apart from writing?

Parker: I used to be a room service waiter at a four star, four diamond hotel in Milwaukee. I left there after twenty-eight years, and started on a new career path. I thought I would miss it, but really, I don’t. I much prefer being at home and writing.

KC: For twenty-three years, I taught French and Spanish – and I don’t miss teaching in the slightest!

How did you start writing?

Parker: When I was a kid (lo these many centuries ago), gay representation in books, movies, and television could be easily summed up in a few columns. We were either jokes, victims, or eternally unhappy. For example: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/jeangreyphoenixfans/bruce-banner-almost-raped-in-ymca-hulk-23-1980-t1464.html shows what happens to Bruce Banner (aka the Hulk) while in the shower at a local YMCA. It disgusted me from the standpoint of the fact these men were going to rape him, but also from the way they talked and acted. I wanted stories that were about people like me. Ones who wanted to be happy, and needed to find that person who completed them. So I started writing the ones with gay teens who, like me, wanted nothing more than to find their happily ever after.

KC: I was a Head of Department in a high school, and going through a very bad patch. I got so stressed, I lost half my hair. My doctor said I needed to do something positive and creative, to break the cycle. Well, I’d had an idea for a book for over a year, so I sat down and sketched out thirteen chapters of a novella – because no way was it going to be a novel. Five-and-a-half weeks and 78,000 words later, Learning To Love: Michael & Sean was born.

Do you like to read books that are like the ones you write?

Parker: Sometimes. It really depends on the book. I do like romance stories where the characters find the one they’ve been looking for, and happy read those. Same with stories about shifters (which are some of my favorites). I’m not keen on a lot of blood or angsty stories, so tend to shy away from them.

KC: What he said. I like BDSM / shifters / contemporary, but ALWAYS with a HEA. I do NOT do bittersweet endings.

What is the most annoying thing your other half does that distracts you from your writing?

Parker: Does breathing count? No, seriously, Paul’s great when I’m writing. He leaves me be, and if I’m in the zone, he’ll make me dinner and serve it to me.

KC: He has this annoying habit of coming home early from work, walking into the room where I’m writing, and beginning a conversation. Sometimes I want to yell, ‘HELLO? Writing here!!!

How did you become as writing partners?

Parker: I read ‘An Unlocked Heart’ and reached out to KC, telling her how much I loved Leo and Alex. It started a friendship that lasts to this day. She was working on Trusting Thomas—which, by the way, made me cry many times—and asked if I would ever consider writing with her. My immediate reply was ‘no’, because I thought my writing was a poor second to hers. That night, while I was at work, I thought of an idea that might be useful for a story. When I got home, I pitched it to KC and from that came ‘Someone to Keep Me’.

KC: What he said

Why do you choose to write MM books, and do you write MF books too?

Parker: I write MM because that’s my life. I can honestly say, I don’t know that I could write an MF book as I don’t have that many women friends that I can draw on for inspiration. (Plus, let’s be honest, I know next to nothing about the female anatomy.)

KC: Because I read MM books, loved them, and thought, ‘I want to do that.’ And I am halfway through my first MF right now… not as KC, of course.

Is there a MM sub-Genre that you would like to write but you are unsure about doing so?

Parker: Definitely not. If a story strikes me, I’m going to do my best to give it a go.

KC: I have an idea for a ménage shifter story… A lion, a tiger and a bear (No, really…)

Whilst researching BDSM have you found anything that has shocked or surprised you?

Parker: How turned on I get looking at the videos? ;)

KC: Not really, but then I have friends for whom this is part of their life. I guess nothing really shocks me. Okay, there was the first time I looked up what scat was, but hey, that was a long time ago…

We all know 50 shades of grey brought BDSM into the mainstream, but why did you choose to write BDSM books?

Parker: I’ve always been fascinated by BDSM, even before it became popular. It wasn’t until I started writing and met some authors who wrote BDSM (like KC) that I decided to give it a go.

KC: *cough* that book got me writing An Unlocked Heart in the first place. I got halfway through FSOG and thought, ‘I can do better than this…’

Which couple from Secrets / Collars and cuffs series is your favourite and why?

Parker: For me, it’s Scott and Ben. The reasons? Well, first off, they were the boys that brought KC and I together as writing partners. Second, they’re not perfect. Ben had a lot to learn about being a Dom, but the thing of it was, he grew as the series progressed, and so did Scott. It’s what I loved best about the series. No one stayed stagnant. By the end of the series, everyone had grown and changed.

KC: I will ALWAYS love Alex and Leo, but then there’s Thomas and Peter, Alan and Dorian, Darren and JJ, and -  ARRRRRGGGGHHHH! Don’t make me choose!

Why did you decide to end Collars and cuffs series and start a new bdsm series.?

Parker: We wanted to go out on top, so to speak. We didn’t want to be one of those series that gets bogged down in backstory, and people would have to read every book just to know what’s going on. We thought eight was a nice number to stop at, and then we could start fresh.

KC: What he said

I noticed that the title of the latest Secrets book “Unlocked Mind” is very similar to the first C&C book “An Unlocked heart, is there a reason behind this or is it just coincidence?

Parker: I am SO glad you asked! Yes, there is a reason. In ‘An Unlocked Mind’ we met Alex, who was being blackmailed by his no account, awful, rotten brother, Rob. He was universally despised, but… See, the thing is, I saw a possibility for Rob’s redemption. I could see beneath the surface for him. I asked KC about a story for him, but she didn’t have anything planned. When the Collars & Cuffs series drew to a close, and we were going to have Eli and Jarod jump to London, she mentioned the fact that we could do a story for Rob, and I was all over that.

What is your favourite season of the year and why?

Parker: I love autumn. The crisp, cool air, the fact it’s not too hot you can’t have your windows open, the way your dogs enjoy jumping into the leaves like maniacs. All those add up to the perfect season.

KC: SUMMER. Writing by the sea. Walking by the sea. Blue skies that I can see from my window. Fragrant flowers

Christmas is just around the corner What is your favourite memory of Christmas?

Parker: My favorite memory would be Paul’s and my Christmas after we adopted Cat (yeah, we weren’t real original with the names), and Cat took exception to the dangling, glow-in-the-dark icicles that hung from the tree, and proceeded to pull them off, then went after the tinsel. It was a mess, but it was funnier than heck.

KC: The year I out-sneakied the hubby and bought him a CD player, which I hid with the neighbours next door. His face Christmas morning…

How do you celebrate Christmas and what is your favourite part of Christmas?

Parker: We don’t celebrate the holidays. I’ll talk to my mom, wish her a happy holiday, but that’s about the extent of it. For the most part, Paul works all of them, so I sit at home and write or watch TV or sleep.

KC: As soon as December hits, I’m the one asking if we can watch my Christmas DVDs. LOL.

On the day, I get up first, and start making stock from the turkey giblets. By the time hubby gets up, the house if filled with the tantalizing smell. Breakfast and presents, then phone calls to his dad and my parents. We used to eat our main meal in the evening, but in recent years, that’s moved to around 2-3. It’s a joint effort, and the hubby likes helping me prepare parmesan baked parsnips. Then? On the couch for TV and a glass of wine…

What is your favourite take out / eat out food?

Parker: Oh, I love pizza. When KC was in town, we took her to Ian’s Pizza, where they have several varieties of vegan pizzas. Paul and I love them.

KC: I love Chinese and Indian. Pizza. Fish and chips.

If you won, the lottery what would be the first thing you would buy?

Parker: If it was a large amount of money, I’d buy a bigger house somewhere out in the country. That way, when KC comes to visit, she can be distracted by our country squirrels. ;)

KC: Take off the roof from our house, put a new one back on with a steeper pitch, and build a writing room up there, with a view over the hills to the sea…. (It’s out there somewhere)

Who was your first celebrity crush?

Parker: Hm. Probably Burt Ward (Robin). I loved him in those tiny green trunks. Rumor has it, Burt was incredibly endowed. In fact, this is part of his bio:

It was so big that when Ward tried to stuff "the Beast in the Bat trunks" (one of Ward's many nicknames for his penis) into those skimpy green shorts, studio execs were fielding complaints from the National Legion of Decency, who were offended by Robin's bulge. The costume designers futilely tried to hide the protrusion using various restraints and even layering Robin's green underwear. When all that failed, the studio sent him to a less than reputable doctor who prescribed a course of mystery pills that would supposedly "shrink" the Boy Wonder's wonder. Luckily, Ward stopped taking them before any bodily damage was done. He is emphatically clear on this point.

KC: David Cassidy. Sigh….

Favourite Book and why?

Parker: I love Mary Calmes and devour all of her books. Also, Mighty Casey by Willa Okati is my go-to book when I need a sweet read. KC has a new one coming out called ‘BFF’. I think this is probably my favorite by her, and can’t wait for everyone to get a chance to read it.

KC: sigh. Nope. Sorry. WAYYYYYYY too many to choose from.

Favourite Song and why?

Parker: I don’t really have a favorite song. My tastes vary greatly.

KC: What he said

Favourite movie and why?

Parker: I LOVE How to Train Your Dragon. Cried so many times.

KC: See above for response to Favourite Book. Ditto.

Can you tell us a little about the main characters of your latest book?  How did you develop them into fully fledge characters?

Parker: Happy to oblige! For those who read An Unlocked Heart, the first book in the Collars & Cuffs series, Rob is Alex’s brother. In An Unlocked Heart, he’s conniving, manipulative, and pretty full of himself. When he spots Leo and Alex kissing, he tries to blackmail Alex into buying him a new laptop. Things go downhill from there, as Leo is questioned by police after reports that Leo has been abusing Alex. This leads to Alex moving out of his parent’s home and in with Leo. But that doesn’t end Rob’s story. Nope, not by a longshot. J Fast forward several years, and we come to the opening night of Secrets. Rob gets an invite in the mail, and decides to go. He’s sickened by what he sees there, but it gets worse when someone familiar takes the stage…

Vic is a Dom at Secrets. He’s been a member of the club for years, and until recently, he’s only played. He was at work when the opening night occurred, so it’s a few months before he has a chance to go. When he finally does show up, he is rammed into by a certain young man who has attitude for miles. And the two of them definitely do not hit it off. His mood ruined, Vic decides to go home. When he opens the door to leave, he finds it’s storming out. As he is driving home, he spies a lone figure making his way against the harsh weather. Everything tells him to keep driving, but Vic stops and opens his window…

If you could choose any celebrity to play the two main characters who would they be?

Parker: For me, Chris Sullivan (Benny from Stranger Things) would be a good Vic. And Jeremy Irvine would be a good Rob.

Do you have any work in progress that is currently being written, if so tell us a little about the book?

Parker: KC and I are currently working on ‘Threepeat’, book three in the Secrets series. It will be the first ménage tale for the two of us as co-authors (and my first ever.)  It tells the tale of Sam and Aaron (who appears briefly in book one, Before You Break) who had their submissive come to them and ask to be let out of his contract. The two men are devastated, and losing Seb takes a toll on their relationship. They fight to get back to where they were, first as friends, then as Doms, but they know they’re not complete without their third person.

Into their lives comes Tim, a young, homeless man that Aaron rescues from a street corner where he passes out due to illness. He takes him home and he and Sam begin to help him get better. Sam doesn’t want them to get attached, but they do. In an effort to keep Tim from going back out onto the streets, they offer him a job working for them. Tim accepts, and everything seems to be going well.

Until the day Tim finds a copy of the contract between the three men and realizes he actually has a chance to be part of their family, if only he’s brave enough to take it.

KC: and when I’m not working on that, there’s my MF… and the next Dreamspun Desires story, and….

Thank you to Both K.C. Wells and Parker Williams, for being good sports and answering our questions.

K.C. Wells started writing in 2012, although the idea of writing a novel had been in her head since she was a child. But after reading that first gay romance in 2009, she was hooked.

She now writes full time, and the line of men in her head, clamouring to tell their story, is getting longer and longer. If the frequent visits by plot bunnies are anything to go by, that’s not about to change anytime soon.

Parker Williams believes that true love exists, but it always comes with a price. No happily ever after can ever be had without work, sweat, and tears that come with melding lives together.

Title: RAVEN (#2 Elsewhere series)

Author: HJ Perry

Publisher: LoveLight Press

Release Date: December 6, 2017

Genre/s: Gay Fantasy/Paranormal Shifter Romance

Length: approx. 40k words.

Raven is a hot and steamy gay fantasy with a guaranteed Happy Ever After and no cheating.

It is book two in the new Elsewhere series featuring powerful men who are not of this world.

Blurb There’s more to life than books. Antisocial bookworm Caspian hopes to reconnect with nature and find his inner child when he takes on the task of exploring the woods around Beaumont. Or at least he’ll find a new place to curl up with his eReader. There are birds. After rescuing an injured bird who miraculously heals within minutes, at night Caspian has vivid and erotic dreams, which he doesn’t want to wake up from. And there’s the Prince of Ravens. Birds haunt him in the daytime, and a particular man haunts his dreams. The connection is far greater than Caspian can imagine… Mate, and it’s for life. From another world, the Raven Prince can take bird or human form, but he takes only one lover. As a human of our land, it’s difficult for Caspian to grasp that soulmates bond for life.

  Excerpt

The bedsheets in Caspian’s dream were made of black silk. They covered a mattress so soft, he sank into it as if it were an oversized pillow. He blinked open his eyes and stretched out. Thousands of flickering flames from candles danced in unison, lighting up the room. A familiar smell hung in the air, almost like rain. He recognized this same scent from something in the forest—what exactly, though, he couldn't say. Caspian sat up, supporting himself on his elbows. The sheets slid across his bare thighs as he shifted his position. He realized then that he was naked. Even though it felt so real, Caspian knew it was a dream. He remembered going to bed in the stiflingly hot guest room, underneath a central overhead light and surrounded by huge old wooden furniture. Not a candle in sight. Wearing his cotton pajamas, he’d made the bed up with white sheets. It was so hot that he’d only put on one cotton sheet to go over him. He doubted he’d find black silk or satin anywhere in Dr. Kilpatrick’s house. Caspian had undoubtedly fallen asleep while reading a book, as was his normal way of dozing off. The eReader, still lying on the bed beside him, had switched to sleep mode when he didn’t ‘turn’ the page. Sensing eyes on him, Caspian glanced around, his eyes adjusting to the warm flickering light. “Hello?” he called out before actually seeing the man who stood in the shadows at the edge of the room. Dressed from head to toe in smart black clothes, the stranger had slicked-back black hair, too. The man stood in front of a dark background, which was probably why Caspian didn’t notice him right away. He saw him now. Except, he realized that the stranger wasn’t standing, and also wasn’t in the room. Not exactly. In the doorway, he leaned at an angle, a shoulder against the door frame propping him up. There wasn’t a door, as far as Caspian could see, just an opening to something beyond, which lay in darkness. The tall man cut a striking figure. He was older than Caspian by a few years—likely in his late twenties. His handsome face was classically good looking with strong chiseled features. “Hello,” he said, taking a step forward into the light. His black hair shone a sleek, iridescent blue. It struck Caspian as familiar, but he couldn’t place from where. Unafraid, fully aware it was a dream, Caspian kept the sheets modestly over his lap. He wasn’t ashamed of his body or his looks, but even when asleep, he wasn’t an exhibitionist. Well, he only occasionally had those fantasies. The stranger took another step forward, his gait a confident swagger. His fingers worked at the black buttons of his shirt as he drew nearer. Enticing black chest hair appearing at the top of the shirt, which fell open. Caspian gulped. “Who are you?” Without answering, the stranger didn’t stop moving. Reaching the foot of the bed, he paused to kick off his shoes and shook his open shirt free of his slender frame. Mouth watering, Caspian took in the sight of muscular arms and a torso covered in fine, velvety black hairs. He longed to run his fingers over the hairy chest but didn’t move. The sure-of-himself stranger ran a pointing finger from his navel suggestively down the length of the thick black treasure trail until he reached the top of his pants. He made short work of unfastening the belt and removing it from the loops before dropping it out of sight. When the belt snapped free of the loops, the pants dropped a little, clinging to his hips and emphasizing the bulge of his crotch. The bulge seemed to be all that held them up. When he dropped the belt, the dreamy stranger used a free hand to cup his prominent package, dragging fingers up either side to emphasize its size and shape, and to draw attention to his erection. He didn’t need to, though. It had Caspian’s attention. With unfathomable skill and dexterity, the man ran his fingers around the silhouette of his cock under the black fabric and undid his fly at the same time. He moved his hips in a small circular motion, and the pants glided down, over his thighs. It took quite some balls for a guy to perform a private striptease in this way. Enjoying every moment of the show, Caspian licked his lips, subconsciously attempting to summon moisture back into his dry mouth. All thoughts focused on the now-naked man at the foot of the bed. On the bed. Naked and crawling on hands and knees, up the bed. Over him. Overconfident, brazen, and not stopping to check that the man in the bed was happy with this development, although he was. Caspian drew in a breath but didn’t back up. He stayed still as the presumptuous stranger crossed the bed, over his legs—still covered by the sheet—and straddled his lap, with a very hard cock prominent between them, and Caspian’s equally aroused member pushing against the silk sheet and body above it. The stranger smirked as they grew close. Face to face, the sharp, aristocratic point of the stranger’s nose brushed against Caspian’s. Caspian’s heart hammered in his chest. He hoped he wasn’t blushing. The touch, as slight as it was, felt electric. The air sparked with sudden, impossible chemistry. “Hello,” the stranger said again before stealing a kiss. Closing his eyes, Caspian gasped into the stranger’s mouth. After a brief moment of hesitation, he kissed the stranger back. Arousal surged low in his stomach and bound him to the moment. Nothing else had ever been so important, so captivating. They sank onto the bed together. The stranger pressed down, with only a slither of black silk to separate their naked bodies. Sheer smooth silk protecting him from a stranger.

About the Author

HJ Perry is a 49 years old mother of three school aged children. They live by the English seaside and from her hometown she can see France. Helen loves reading. If it were possible, she'd do nothing else. She reads science fiction, fantasy, young adult, all types of LGBT fiction, and, of course, gay romance. Aside from reading she likes walking and watching films, most often science fiction or thrillers. HJP has written many books about men falling in love in England where, for the most part, LGBT people are treated with the same respect as anyone else. Having worked in the construction industry for years in real life, she has written many fictional characters working in similar macho, male dominated environments. Despite reading American books and watching American shows, writing American characters has been a huge challenge for her. With a lot of help, Rescued from Paradise is her first novel featuring Americans and set in the US.

Title: His Taken Omega (Mountain Shifters #11) Author: L.C. Davis Publisher: Self-Published Cover Artist: Wolf Conan Release Date: December 3, 2017 Length: 70 000 words/260 pages Genre/s: M/M shifter Mpreg romance His Taken Omega is a standalone story within the Mountain Shifter universe.

Blurb

Nicholas wants nothing to do with omegas, and Avery has already signed a contract binding him to another Alpha. Fate has other plans for them both. As the omega spokesman for the infamous Futurus Initiative, Avery Callahan is a controversial figure who’s used to being envied, occasionally despised and always the center of attention. His kidnapping at the hands of the twisted omega at the helm of the radical anti-Futurus group known as Epsilon shook his perfect world to the core, and Avery’s abnormally conventional parents no longer know what to do with him. In a last-ditch effort to save their son’s reputation—and his engagement to a prestigious politician—the Callahans send him to the small, idyllic pack of Southbend for some much-needed rest and recovery. When Avery arrives in Southbend, he finds the Meyer household anything but welcoming and he immediately clashes with the rakishly reluctant head of the household. Nicholas might be a brilliant lawyer with good looks and charm in abundance, but he makes no secret of the fact that Avery is persona non-grata in his pack. How is Avery supposed to heal his own wounds when an Alpha who looks at every omega with disdain makes him question everything, including his participation in the breeding program he’s devoted his life to promoting?

~

Nicholas has it all on the surface—rising-star status as an attorney with his own practice, a sizable inheritance and the option of going home with any omega he chooses at the end of the night—but beneath the mask of his status, he hides a secret that makes him feel unworthy of the title of Alpha. Past abuse has left him with a deep-seated revulsion towards omegas, the very class of shifter he’s supposed to crave. He uses work and meaningless flings with other Alphas and betas to distract himself from the family life he doesn’t believe he deserves, but in the wake of his estranged father’s death, Nicholas is called home to take on a role he never wanted. Forced to give up his high-profile career and take the reins of his family’s pack, Nicholas finds himself wholly unprepared to fill the shoes of the man he hated. Because fate isn’t cruel enough, the Spirits choose this moment to send him his destined mate—a charming yet infuriatingly stubborn omega he can never love or even claim. At least, that’s what he thinks until he realizes that the very traits that repel him from other omegas draw him to Avery in a way he finds as bewildering as it is intoxicating.

Review
****

This is the first book in the series I have read but the book can easily be read without reading previous books.   I enjoyed the colourful characters both Avery and Nicholas as well as the secondary characters.  Great depth that tells us Why the characters are the way they are and why the react the way they do. There’s plenty of emotion and a few moments of laughter about the banter between Avery and Nicholas, which gives the story a good balance.

Both Main characters are troubled with past experiences, can they work together and be strong enough for each other?

With the declining numbers of werewolf’s, their race is divided on how to rectify the situation.  Avery a Omega is the spokesperson for infamous Futurus Initiative. Which was the reason for his recent kidnapping by an anti Futurus Imitative.  Still suffering PTSD, His parents send him another pack to recuperate, and more importantly to get him out of the limelight.

On the other side of the fence we have Alpha Nicholas A top lawyer, who has had to put his career on hold to return to his pack and step into his fathers Pack Alpha shoes.  Nicholas is not the greatest fan of the Futurus initiative.

When Avery walks into his house as a guest, Nicholas is aware of strange feelings and soon realises that Avery is his destined mate.  The only trouble is that Avery has signed a contract binding him to another alpha.  And then there is Nicholas loathing of Omega’s.  At least until he meets Avery.

Thinking he is doing the right thing for Avery and everyone concerned Nicholas keeps his distance and tries not give Avery the cold shoulder.

It is not until Nicholas faces the person from his past that sets off his need to shift, knowing he would likely be out of control he runs off into the woods and away from everyone.  But Avery follows him and is do darn stubborn that he won’t heed Nicholas warnings.  Somehow Avery has a calming effect and Nicholas avoids the shift.

This is where they really start to mean more to each other.  A little later Avery suddenly feels strange after a very stressful meeting with the same person who hurt Nicholas.   Unbeknown to Avery he is about to shift for the first time in his life.   Nicholas arrives just in time to help him through it and keep control.   But by doing so He has to bite Avery and start the mating process.

We see both characters go through their own hell and come out much stronger with each other’s love and support.

How am I just joining the series now?  I guess I have some catch up reading to do.  I thoroughly recommend this book to all paranormal shifter story lovers, and to anyone who enjoys a good romance with plenty of grit to it.

Excerpt 2

“Well,” Nicholas said, coming to a stop in the middle of the town square. “This is the great metropolis of Southbend. What do you think?” “I think it’s lovely,” Avery said, hesitating. “And very, very rural.” “It is certainly that.” Nicholas grinned. “Should we head back? You must be tired after your trip.” “I am,” Avery admitted, falling into step beside him. “Guess I am here to relax.” “That’s what I heard.” “What else have you heard?” Nicholas wasn’t sure how to respond. Avery gave him a knowing look. “You can be honest. You won’t hurt my feelings.” “It’s nothing bad, if that’s what you’re thinking.” “I guess that depends on whether you consider the public face of the Futurus Initiative having a nervous breakdown in the middle of a fundraiser to be a bad thing.” “Everyone knows what you went through. You’re a hero. If they’d judge you for that, they’re not worth the time.” “It’s been three months,” Avery murmured. “Three months is barely enough time to enjoy summer break, let alone get over being kidnapped.” “Maybe you can tell my parents that. They’re convinced I’m irreparably broken.” “You don’t look broken to me.” Nicholas pretended to look the omega over for damage. “Maybe a small dent right here,” he said, poking the dimple on Avery’s cheek that deepened when he smiled. “Either way, it looks like I’m stuck here until I can convince my parents of that.” “That makes two of us. For what it’s worth, it’ll be nice to have the company.” Another lie, but at least this one was for a worthy cause. It wasn’t Avery’s fault that an Alpha with an irrational aversion to omegas—or at least intimacy with one—had imprinted on him. Avery was there to recover, not to find a mate when he already had one. The more Nicholas reminded himself of that, the better. His aversion had kept him single into his early thirties, so surely he could manage to control the hormones and irrational impulses for the few weeks Avery would be staying with them. Once he went back, both of their problems would be solved. Avery could go back to his life as the Futurus golden boy, and Nicholas could sleep a little easier knowing that he wasn’t going to imprint on the next omega who walked into his office looking for help. In the meantime, he just had to fight the urge to commit the greatest sin of his profession: telling the truth.

Excerpt The creature followed behind us for some time, holding its head out as a gift, which if you look at it, is an important gift, just not one you really want. If I hadn’t been so stressed by that time, I would have realized he wanted his head back on. But I wasn’t thinking straight, my ashen complexion and trembling lips were a testimony to that. “Go away,” Bunthar demanded, hitting his staff on the ground. Every time he did, several new cries hit the misty air. “I’m not loving this,” I called out, trying to get away from the various creatures’ grasps. “Well, I was,” Bunthar muttered sarcastically, “What about you, Trend?” At the moment, Trend was pulling his cape back. He must really love his cape because I would have let them have it. “I think I’ll vacation here,” Trend muttered before letting out several cuss words himself.

Gay for Pay was originally published in 2015. Flash forward nearly 3 years later and I have learned so much, become more comfortable as a writer and I'm writing better stories for my readers. So, my editor and I decided to go back to the book that started it all. It was the first book we worked on together and it was the first book in the now wildly popular All Cocks stories. I guess you could say we've come full circle.

We are so excited to spread the word of this wonderful festive free reads  promotion

I had the idea for the Rainbow Advent Calendar a year ago today actually. December was imminent and I was just thinking about how it would be nice if there was some sort of event where, instead of having a calendar that dropped a chocolate in your hand every day until Christmas, you could find a short Festive story waiting for you in the morning. It was too late to do anything then but  when Austrailian friends starting posting about "Christmas in July” it reminded me about it and to my surprise, when I asked a few authors if they’d fancy writing a short Festive tale to give to our readers in December, they almost all said yes!
So from the 1st – 24th December, one or more authors will be posting a story on their blogs that you can find either through the Facebook Group, or on the list I’m hosting on my website. Of course, we’re hoping that people will share the links around too so everyone can get the chance to read them.
We’ve got everything from flash-fics to much longer stories, authors you know and love as well as some first time writers, and heat levels of all kinds. The stories aren’t exclusively about Christmas either, but all have that Festive feeling to get you in the mood for whatever you might be celebrating. You can also find out about authors' new releases, the charities they are supporting this Christmas, and maybe win a thing or two.
Authors and their stories will be revealed each day, but if you join the Facebook group you might get some hints. And maybe a mince pie or two.
